Elementary Substances

Elementary Substances is a pure substance composed of the same element, so the mixture does not belong to elementary substances. When an element exists in elementary substances, it is called the free state of the element. It is composed of atoms of an element, which exists stably in free form, such as oxygen, chlorine, iron and so on. Elementary Substances and element are two different concepts. An element is a general term for atoms with the same number of nuclear charges (protons). An element may have several kinds of elementary substances, for example, oxygen element has four kinds of elementary substances: oxygen, ozone, tetraoxygen and red oxygen. Although either of these substances is elementary substances, because they are pure substances made up of the same elements, oxygen and ozone together are not pure substances, they are a mixture of the same elements. Elementary Substances is divided into monatomic molecules, diatomic molecules and polyatomic molecules. Elementary Substances is composed of one element, copper and iron are elementary substances, but calcium carbonate (CaCO3) is not, because calcium carbonate is composed of C, Ca, O three elements, so it is not elementary substances, it is a compound, the compound is also pure. And the same element can be combined in different ways (that is, allotrope). Such as C, it can be composed of graphite, diamond and so on. if they are mixed together, it cannot be said to be pure, it can only be a mixture of the same element.
