Introduction of Diphenyl ether

Diphenyl ether, also known as phenoxybenzene, is a colourless liquid with a mild pleasant odour. It can either float or sink, and has a freezing point of 81 °F. This aromatic ether is commonly found in grapes and mangoes.

It serves various purposes, such as being a carrier for dyes, a flavouring agent in food additives, a heat transfer medium like Dowtherm A, and a chemical intermediate in surfactants and lubricants. Additionally, it is used as a processing aid in polyester production, and certain polybrominated derivatives of diphenyl ether act as flame retardants.

Recent studies have shown that diphenyl ethers can be utilized in the synthesis of fluorescent low molecular weight organogels, leading to innovative nano-feathered assemblies. The anti-microbial cytotoxicity properties of diphenyl ether-derived organogels have also been explored.
