Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is commonly used in ophthalmic surgery, but the native form is not suitable as a vitreous substitute because it degrades rapidly and may lead to an undesired increase in intraocular pressure. Vornia’s Methacrylate Modified Hyaluronic acid (HA-MA) can form the crosslinked HA leading to much slower degradation. Methacrylate degree of the HAMA can be tuneable. Vornia’s HA-MA can be cross-linked rapidly by UV light. HA-MA hydrogels possess good biocompatibility and excellent mechanical property. The high amount of methacrylate groups endows HA-MA very fast gelling behaviour under UV light. HA-MA hydrogels attract much more interests in medical devices and regenerative medicine.
