Tropolon

Tropolon ist ein weißer bis blassgelber kristalliner Feststoff mit charakteristischem phenolischem Geruch; er besitzt einen Schmelzpunkt von etwa 50–52 °C und sublimiert bei Raumtemperatur leicht. Er wird als nicht-benzoides aromatisches Verbindung und als siebenringige heterozyklische Enol-Verbindung klassifiziert. Tropolon dient hauptsächlich als Spezialchemikalien-Zwischenprodukt in der organischen Synthese und zeichnet sich durch seine Chelatbildungsfähigkeit sowie sein einzigartiges Reaktivitätsprofil aus. Zu seinen wichtigsten industriellen Anwendungen zählen die Herstellung von Metalltropolonaten (z. B. Kupfer- und Aluminiumkomplexe) für Katalysatoren und Stabilisatoren sowie die Verwendung als Baustein bei der Synthese bestimmter Pharmazeutika, Agrochemikalien und funktioneller Farbstoffe.
