حمض النيكيتون (CAS رقم 59-67-6) مادة بلورية بيضاء إلى شبه بيضاء، ذات رائحة مميزة خفيفة، وتوجد عادةً في الحالة الصلبة عند درجة حرارة الغرفة، مع نقطة انصهار تتراوح بين 148–150°م. يُصنَّف كمركب عطري كربوكسيلي، ويُعدُّ مشتقًّا من حمض البنزويك يحتوي على مجموعة نيترو في الموضع البارا بالنسبة لمجموعة الكربوكسيل. يُستخدم هذا المركب بشكل رئيسي كوسيلة وسيطة كيميائية حيوية في تصنيع المركبات الصيدلانية، لا سيما في إنتاج مضادات البكتيريا والمواد المضادة للالتهابات، وكذلك في تحضير بعض مبيدات الآفات والأصباغ العضوية. تشمل قطاعات تطبيقه الرئيسية الصناعات الدوائية، وصناعة المبيدات الزراعية، وتصنيع الأصباغ والملونات، فضلاً عن استخدامه المحدود في صناعة البوليمرات الخاصة والطلاءات عالية الأداء.
