메틸 메타크릴레이트(CAS 80-62-6)는 투명하고 휘발성이며 무색의 액체로, 특유의 날카롭고 과일 같은 냄새를 지닌다. 이는 α,β-불포화 에스터이자 유기 아크릴 화합물 계열에 속하는 반응성 단량체이다. 그 끓는점은 약 101 °C이며, 열적 또는 촉매에 의한 개시 조건 하에서 쉽게 중합된다. 메틸 메타크릴레이트는 주로 폴리(메틸 메타크릴레이트)(PMMA) 제조용 단량체로 사용되며, 이는 간판, 조명 기구, 자동차 부품, 의료 기기 등에 널리 쓰이는 투명 열가소성 수지이다. 또한 메틸 메타크릴레이트는 코팅제, 접착제, 섬유 및 충격 개질 플라스틱을 위한 아크릴 공중합체의 공단량체로도 사용된다.
