Methyl methacrylate Market share- How big is the Methyl methacrylate market?

China, Germany, and the United States are the leading exporters of methyl methacrylate, collectively accounting for over 50% of global export value in 2023–2024, while major importers include South Korea, India, and Mexico—reflecting strong demand from regional polymer and coatings manufacturing hubs. Imports into Southeast Asia and India have grown steadily since 2022, coinciding with moderate upward pressure on methyl methacrylate prices amid tightening supply from key European producers.

Methyl methacrylate Market Analysis

Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) Recent Commodity Market Intelligence Report

I. Market Price Dynamics

* Price Range: According to the latest quotations from traders, the price range for MMA (purity 99.5%–99.9%) is RMB 8,900–18,200 per metric ton, with specific prices varying by brand, origin, and delivery location. For example, Jilin Chemical Industry Co., Ltd./National Standard MMA offered by Shandong Yeyang Chemical Co., Ltd. is quoted at RMB 9,000/ton in Jinan City, Shandong Province, whereas the same-grade product from Shandong Langcheng Chemical Co., Ltd. in Jinan is priced as high as RMB 18,200/ton.
* Price Disparities: Significant price differences exist across brands and origins. Domestic MMA prices are generally lower than those of imported products; however, certain high-end domestic MMA grades approach or even exceed import pricing.

II. Supply-Demand Situation

* Supply Status: Domestic MMA production capacity continues to expand, yet supply capability for high-end grades remains insufficient. While some enterprises have enhanced both output volume and quality through technological upgrades and capacity expansion, overall supply still falls short of meeting high-end market demand.
* Demand Status: Primary end-use sectors for MMA include PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) sheets, automotive headlamp lenses, LCD optical films, and premium coatings. With rapid growth in new-energy vehicles and optical display industries, demand for high-end MMA continues to rise steadily.

III. Import-Export Situation

* Import Status: Despite continuous expansion of domestic MMA capacity, high-end products remain reliant on imports. Major sources include Japan and South Korea, whose products demonstrate advantages in quality consistency and stability.
* Export Status: China’s MMA export volumes have increased year-on-year; however, exported products are predominantly mid-to-low-tier grades, while exports of high-end MMA remain relatively limited.

IV. Policy Environment

* Policy Support: Government support for the new materials industry is intensifying, with relevant policies expected to foster technological innovation and development within the MMA sector. For instance, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has included high-purity electronic-grade MMA copolymers in its supported scope and implemented a first-of-a-kind equipment insurance compensation mechanism.
* Environmental Regulations: As China advances its “Dual Carbon” goals (carbon peak and carbon neutrality), environmental compliance has become a critical orientation for MMA industry development. Enterprises must increase environmental investment and improve resource utilization efficiency to meet increasingly stringent regulatory requirements.

Analysis and Assessment

I. Price Trend Analysis

* Short-Term Volatility: MMA prices are subject to short-term fluctuations driven by raw material costs, supply-demand dynamics, and policy shifts. Nevertheless, overall price stability—or modest downward pressure—is anticipated, supported by expanding domestic capacity and gradual improvement in high-end supply capability.
* Long-Term Outlook: Over the longer term, sustained demand growth from new-energy vehicles, optical displays, and other advanced sectors will drive the MMA industry toward higher value-added, specialized production, thereby enhancing industry-wide profitability.

II. Supply-Demand Analysis

* Supply Side: While domestic MMA capacity continues to grow, high-end supply capacity remains constrained. Enterprises must accelerate technological innovation and capacity expansion to bolster high-end product availability.
* Demand Side: Downstream industry growth will sustain robust demand for MMA. Notably, demand for high-end MMA from new-energy vehicles and optical display applications will intensify further.

III. Competitive Landscape Analysis

* Industry Concentration: The MMA industry exhibits relatively high concentration, with leading enterprises maintaining dominant market positions. These firms have consolidated their leadership through technological upgrading and capacity expansion.
* Competitive Dynamics: Increasing domestic capacity and improving high-end supply capability will intensify competition. Enterprises must strengthen innovation capabilities and brand development to enhance product competitiveness.

Forecast

I. Price Forecast

* Short-Term Forecast: MMA prices are expected to remain stable or experience only minor fluctuations in the near term.
* Long-Term Forecast: In the long run, continued downstream industry expansion and rising demand for high-end MMA will support a trend of steady price growth.

II. Supply-Demand Forecast

* Supply Forecast: Domestic MMA production capacity is projected to continue growing over the next several years, with high-end supply capability gradually strengthening.
* Demand Forecast: Demand for MMA will sustain growth, propelled by rapid development in new-energy vehicles, optical displays, and related sectors—particularly for high-end grades.

III. Industry Development Trend Forecast

* Upscaling & High-End Orientation: The MMA industry will advance toward high-end, specialized production, elevating technical capabilities and supply capacity for premium products.
* Green Transformation: In response to tightening environmental standards, the MMA industry will increase investment in eco-friendly technologies and promote green manufacturing and sustainable development.
* Internationalization: Domestic MMA enterprises will deepen international cooperation and exchanges, actively expand overseas markets, and enhance global competitiveness.

About Methyl methacrylate

Methyl methacrylate (CAS 80-62-6) is a clear, volatile, colorless liquid with a characteristic sharp, fruity odor. It is an α,β-unsaturated ester and a reactive monomer belonging to the class of organic acrylic compounds. Its boiling point is approximately 101 °C, and it polymerizes readily under thermal or catalytic initiation. Methyl methacrylate is primarily used as a monomer in the production of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), a transparent thermoplastic widely employed in signage, lighting fixtures, automotive components, and medical devices. It also serves as a comonomer in acrylic copolymers for coatings, adhesives, textiles, and impact-modified plastics.

Methyl methacrylatec is used in acrylic bone cements used in orthopedic surgery; in the production of acrylic polymers, polymethylmethacrylate andcopolymers used in acrylic surface coatings; in the manufaeture of emulsion polymers; in the modification of unsaturatedpolyester resins; in the production of higher methacrylate, acrylic fibers, acrylic film, inks, radiation-polymerized impregnants forwood, and solvent-based adhesives and binders; as an impact modifier of PVC; in medicinal spray adhesives; in nonirritantbandage solvents; in dental technology as ceramic filler or cement; to coat corneal contact lenses; in intraocular lenses, artificial nails, and hearing aids; as a monomer for polymethaerylate resins; in the impregnation of concretc.
Methyl 2-methyl-2-propenoate has an acrid, penetrating odor. In another report this compound is reported to possessa sharp, fruity odor
