メタクリル酸メチル

メタクリル酸メチル（CAS 80-62-6）は、透明で揮発性の無色液体であり、特有の鋭く果実のような臭気を有しています。これはα,β-不飽和エステルであり、有機アクリル化合物に属する反応性の高いモノマーです。その沸点は約101 °Cであり、熱的または触媒的開始条件下で容易に重合します。メタクリル酸メチルは主にポリ（メタクリル酸メチル）（PMMA）の製造におけるモノマーとして使用され、PMMAは看板、照明器具、自動車部品、医療機器などに広く用いられる透明な熱可塑性樹脂です。また、塗料、接着剤、繊維、耐衝撃性を付与したプラスチックなどのアクリル共重合体におけるコモノマーとしても利用されます。
