Méthanolate de sodium

Le méthanolate de sodium est un solide blanc à jaune pâle, généralement fourni sous forme de solution dans le méthanol ou sous forme de poudre fluide ; il est hygroscopique, non volatil et se décompose avant de fondre (début de la décomposition ~127 °C). Il s’agit d’un alcóxyde de métal alcalin et d’une base forte, largement utilisée comme catalyseur et réactif en synthèse organique. Ses principales applications industrielles comprennent les réactions de transestérification pour la production de biodiesel, ainsi que son utilisation comme intermédiaire clé dans la synthèse de produits pharmaceutiques, d’agrochimiques et de colorants. Il est également employé dans la fabrication de polymères silicones, de revêtements et d’esters spécialisés, là où une déprotonation contrôlée ou une méthylation nucléophile est requise.
