2-メチル-1-プロパノール（イソブタノール）は、無色透明の液体で、特有の穏やかでやや甘い臭気を有し、中程度の揮発性を示します。これは分岐鎖の第一級アルコールであり、沸点は約108 ℃、融点は−108 ℃です。有機化学物質および多目的な中間体として広く用いられ、エステル、可塑剤、界面活性剤の合成に多く利用されます。主な用途としては、塗料、インキ、樹脂への応用があり、特に付着助剤および溶媒として使用されます。また、農薬および高分子材料の製造において、イソブチル酢酸エステルその他の誘導体の前駆体としても重要です。
