Allyl bromide

Allyl bromide is a colorless to pale yellow, volatile liquid with a pungent, chloroform-like odor. It is an organobromine compound and classified as a reactive allylic halide. With a boiling point of approximately 71 °C and moderate water solubility, it is widely employed as a versatile alkylating and allylating agent in organic synthesis. Its primary industrial use is as a chemical intermediate in the production of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals (e.g., insecticides and plant growth regulators), and specialty polymers. It also serves in the synthesis of allyl derivatives such as allyl amines, allyl ethers, and heterocyclic compounds for coatings and electronic materials.

Allyl Bromide is used as a reagent in the synthesis of Resveratrol derivatives. Resveratrol (R150000) is a minor constituent of wine, correlated with serum lipid reduction and inhibition of platelet aggregation. Resveratrol is a specific inhibitor of COX-1, and it also inhibits the hydroperoxidase activity of COX-1. It has been shown to inhibit events associated with tumor initiation, promotion and progression.
