About Chlorobenzene

Chlorobenzene is a clear, colorless, volatile liquid with a characteristic almond-like odor. It is an aromatic organochloride compound, chemically classified as a monosubstituted benzene derivative. With a boiling point of 131–132 °C and low water solubility, it serves primarily as a chemical intermediate in industrial synthesis. Its principal applications include the production of nitrochlorobenzenes (ortho- and para-isomers), which are precursors to dyes, pigments, rubber chemicals, and agrochemicals such as herbicides and fungicides. It is also used in the manufacture of phenol via the Dow process and as a solvent in certain specialty polymer and coating formulations.

Manufacture of phenol, aniline, DDT; solvent for paint; color printing; dry cleaning industry.
colourless liquid, Chlorination of benzene in the presence of a catalyst (FeCl3 or AICI3) yields chlorobenzene as the first product. Substitution with a second CI yields ortho, para, or meta dichlorobenzene, Eventually all the hydrogens can be substituted to give hexachlorobenzene, C6C16. In the presence ofultraviolet light, the chlorinationofbenzene yields benzene hexachloride, C6H6C~, a derivative ofcyclohexane.
