1-Octanol Market share- How big is the 1-Octanol market?

China and the United States are the leading exporters of 1-Octanol (CAS 111-87-5), together accounting for over 40% of global export value in 2023–2024, while India, South Korea, and Germany rank among the top importers. Import demand has expanded steadily in Asia-Pacific markets, coinciding with moderate upward pressure on 1-Octanol prices amid tightening supply from key European producers.

1-Octanol Market Analysis

n-Octanol Recent Market Intelligence Report

I. Price Dynamics
- **Latest Quotation**: As of July 7, 2026, the Binsu Network benchmark price for n-octanol stands at RMB 30,166.67 per metric ton, representing a 0.56% increase from the beginning-of-month price of RMB 30,000.00/ton and remaining within the annual high range (annual maximum: RMB 30,500/ton; annual minimum: RMB 24,625/ton).
- **Regional Price Differentials**: Significant regional price disparities exist—e.g., imported n-octanol in Shandong Province is priced between RMB 17,500–28,500/ton, whereas in Shanghai it ranges from RMB 30,500–31,500/ton. Domestically produced n-octanol is generally priced lower than imported equivalents.
- **Short-Term Volatility**: On July 2, 2026, n-octanol ranked among top gainers in the Chemical Bulk Commodities Daily Price Index, rising by 0.56% on a daily basis. While day-on-day fluctuations remain modest, year-on-year comparative data are not explicitly provided.

II. Supply-Demand Relationship
- **Supply Side**:
- From late 2025 to early 2026, new capacity commissioning was delayed; operational load rates and product specifications failed to meet expectations, resulting in tight market supply.
- From mid-to-late January 2026, technical upgrade projects in Shandong and newly commissioned facilities in East China gradually came online—but incremental output remained limited, failing to fully alleviate supply constraints.
- Throughout H1 2026, elevated energy and raw material costs led to reduced operating rates at overseas butyraldehyde/octanol plants. Consequently, China shifted from being a net importer to a net exporter of butyraldehyde/octanol products; however, domestic production still falls short of demand.
- **Demand Side**:
- Downstream plasticizer industries (e.g., DOP, DOTP) exhibit fluctuating operating rates, providing intermittent support to n-octanol demand.
- Environmental regulations promoting green products have boosted demand for n-octanol, valued for its low toxicity and high biodegradability.
- Upgraded consumer markets are driving increased demand in cosmetics, fragrances, and other specialty applications, further stimulating n-octanol consumption.

III. Cost & Profitability
- **Cost Base**: Upstream raw materials—including propylene—have experienced only narrow price fluctuations, offering limited cost support to n-octanol.
- **Profitability**: As of mid-June 2026, average weekly profit for n-octanol stood at RMB 152/ton—still relatively low, though improved compared to earlier periods.

IV. Market Sentiment & Policy Impact
- **Market Sentiment**: Expectations surrounding new capacity rollouts and delays in supply expansion have intensified bullish-bearish debate, constraining overall price volatility.
- **Policy Impact**: Effective April 1, 2026, VAT export tax rebates were canceled for certain products. This policy adjustment has generated positive sentiment, prompting downstream and end-user buyers to advance orders—resulting in concentrated short-term demand release.

Analysis & Assessment
1. **Sustained High Prices**: Constrained supply and underlying cost support will keep n-octanol prices elevated in the near term, albeit with limited upside potential.
2. **Gradual Relief of Supply-Demand Imbalance**: As new capacities progressively come online, supply tightness is expected to ease gradually; however, robust demand growth may continue underpinning pricing.
3. **Widening Regional Price Gaps**: Substantial price differentials persist between imported and domestically produced n-octanol, driven largely by logistics costs and brand premium across regions.
4. **Subdued Profit Margins**: Industry-wide profitability remains weak; enterprises may enhance competitiveness through technological upgrades or enhanced cost control measures.

Forecast
1. **Price Trend**: In July 2026, n-octanol prices are projected to fluctuate within RMB 30,000–30,500/ton. Should supply increments fall short of expectations, prices may breach the upper bound of this range.
2. **Supply-Demand Evolution**: New capacity ramp-up progress in H2 2026 and overseas plant operating rates will be critical determinants. Effective supply-side expansion could exert downward pressure on prices.
3. **Demand Growth**: Demand from downstream plasticizers and emerging application sectors is anticipated to grow steadily—though growth pace may be moderated by macroeconomic conditions and evolving consumer trends.
4. **Policy Direction**: Environmental policies and adjustments to export tax rebate frameworks may further reshape supply-demand dynamics; enterprises must closely monitor regulatory developments.

About 1-Octanol

1-Octanol is a clear, colorless liquid with a characteristic floral odor and moderate volatility; it has a melting point of −15 °C and a boiling point of 195 °C. It is a straight-chain, primary aliphatic alcohol classified as an organic chemical intermediate. Industrially, 1-octanol serves primarily as a precursor in the synthesis of esters—especially octyl acetate and other plasticizers—and as a building block for surfactants, lubricant additives, and corrosion inhibitors. Its main application areas include coatings, agrochemical formulations, and specialty solvents, where its balanced hydrophobicity and reactivity support performance in emulsification and extraction processes.

1. 1-octanol can be appropriately used in roses, jasmine, lilac, sweet tofu pudding, honey, orange blossom, citrus, parsnip root, cologne, pine needles and other types. And n-octanol can coordinate with roses, ylang-ylang, parsnip root, orange oil and linalool. Trace n-octanol can also be used in edibile peaches, pineapple, coconut, chocolate, citrus and fruit-based flavors. 2. 1-octanol is mainly used in the production of plasticizers, extractants, stabilizers, and also used as solvents and spices intermediates. In the field of plasticizers, octanol is generally referred to 2-ethyl alcohol, which is a megaton bulk raw materials and is more valuable than n-octanol in the industry. Octanol itself is also used as spices, blending roses, lilies and other floral fragrance to make soap perfume. China's GB2760-86 provides for the allowed use of this product for food spices. And it is mainly used to prepare coconut, pineapple, peach, chocolate and citrus flavor. 3. 1-octanol can be used as raw material for perfume, octyl aldehyde, octanoic acid and its ester. It can also be used as solvent, antifoaming agent and lubricating oil additive. 4. Used for the preparation of spices, but also for solvents and antifoaming agents 5. Used as surfactants, solvents, defoamers, industrial additives, etc. 6. Used as solvents, flavoring agents and defoamers. Replace amyl alcohol to reduce ketones in organic synthesis. Used for manufacturing perfume, and also used as gas chromatography analysis standards.
