About Butanal

Butanal is a clear, colorless, volatile liquid with a pungent, fruity odor. It is an aliphatic aldehyde (C₄H₈O) with a boiling point of 75–76 °C and a melting point of −59 °C. As a key four-carbon aldehyde, it serves primarily as a chemical intermediate in organic synthesis. Its principal industrial applications include the production of butanol, 2-ethylhexanol, and imines—precursors to plasticizers, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and rubber chemicals. It is also used in the manufacture of flavors, fragrances, and certain resins and coatings.
