(3-アミノプロピル)トリエトキシシランは、無色～淡黄色の低粘度液体で、穏やかなアミン様の臭気と中程度の揮発性を有する。これは、有機シリコン化合物に分類される機能性シランカップリング剤であり、ケイ素原子に1つの一次アミン基と3つの加水分解性エトキシ基が結合している構造を特徴とする。主に化学合成における双機能性カップリング剤および表面修飾剤として用いられ、有機ポリマーとガラス、金属、鉱物などの無機基材との間の共有結合を実現する。その主要な応用分野は接着剤、シーラント、コーティング剤、複合材料であり、特に自動車、航空宇宙、建設産業において、界面接着性、耐湿性、機械的性能の向上に寄与している。また、シリカ系ナノ材料の製造や、クロマトグラフィー・バイオセンサー向けのアミノ官能化表面の前駆体としても利用される。
