حمض 1-نوناني كاربوكسيليك مادة عضوية سائلة عديمة اللون إلى شبه صفراء، ذات رائحة خفيفة تشبه رائحة الزيوت النباتية، وذات نقطة غليان تتراوح بين 250–260 درجة مئوية عند الضغط الجوي، ودرجة انصهار تبلغ حوالي –13 درجة مئوية. يصنَّف كيميائيًّا على أنه حمض كربوكسيلي مشبع ذو سلسلة كربونية خطية مكوَّنة من تسعة ذرات كربون، ويُعدُّ مركبًا وسيطيًّا مهمًّا في التخليق العضوي. يستخدم بشكل رئيسي في إنتاج الإسترات والبوليمرات المعدلة، كما يدخل في تركيب المنظفات السطحية والمستحلبات الصناعية بفضل خصائصه السطحية الفعالة. وتتركَّز تطبيقاته التجارية في قطاعات الصناعات الكيميائية المتخصصة، بما في ذلك صناعة المواد المضافة للبلاستيك، ومستحضرات التجميل، ومواد التلميع، فضلاً عن استخدامه المحدود في تحضير بعض المركبات الوسيطة للصناعات الزراعية والدوائية.
