Trichlorosilane (CAS 10025-78-2) is a colorless, fuming liquid with a pungent, sharp odor and high volatility; it has a boiling point of 31.8 °C and a melting point of –12.5 °C. It is an inorganic silicon compound classified as a chlorosilane and serves primarily as a key chemical intermediate. Its principal industrial use is in the production of high-purity silicon for semiconductor and photovoltaic applications via chemical vapor deposition or reduction processes. It is also employed in the synthesis of silicon-based polymers, silanes, and silica precursors used in coatings, adhesives, and surface treatments.
