- Zhejiang Region: On July 6, the price was RMB 3,090/ton (ex-factory, self-pickup), up RMB 15/ton. Producers reported modest inventory pressure, and downstream buyers purchased strictly according to demand, resulting in a relatively strong market sentiment.
- Shandong Region: Hualu Hengsheng increased its prices consecutively on July 2–3. The bulk (unpacked) price rose from RMB 3,070/ton on July 2 to RMB 3,100/ton on July 3. Trading activity was relatively robust; however, actual transaction prices remained subject to negotiation.

II. Inventory Status
- As of July 6, 2026, the aggregate inventory held by domestic acetic acid producers reached 159,100 tons—up 13,900 tons (a 9.56% increase) week-on-week. In Shandong Province specifically, inventory stood at 15,800 tons, up 2,300 tons (a 17.04% increase) from June 29.

III. Supply Situation
- China’s domestic acetic acid nameplate capacity reached 17.06 million tons/year in 2025, with output totaling 12.65 million tons—indicating persistently high supply levels. Additional capacity is scheduled for commissioning in 2026, reinforcing an industry-wide oversupply situation.
- Recent plant operating rates have remained high, ensuring ample market supply. Producers are prioritizing sales volume and actively promoting shipments.

IV. Demand Situation
- Downstream demand remains largely “just-in-time”, with overall trading activity subdued. Traditional end-use sectors—including PTA, vinyl acetate monomer (VAM), and acetate esters—are facing overcapacity, limiting demand growth.
- Emerging applications—including ethanol production via acetic acid/acetate routes, acrylic acid synthesis from acetic acid, new-energy battery materials, photovoltaic components, and biodegradable plastics—hold promising long-term potential. However, these segments remain insufficient to absorb the substantial volume of newly added supply in the near term.

Acetic acid is a clear, colorless liquid with a sharp, pungent vinegar-like odor and moderate volatility. It is a simple carboxylic acid, miscible with water and most common organic solvents, with a melting point of 16.6 °C and a boiling point of 118.1 °C. It serves as a key chemical intermediate in the production of vinyl acetate monomer (VAM), acetic anhydride, and acetate esters. Major application areas include polymer manufacturing (e.g., polyvinyl acetate and cellulose acetate), coatings, adhesives, pharmaceuticals, and food-grade preservatives. It is also used in the synthesis of terephthalic acid precursors and various agrochemical intermediates.

Acetic acid occurs in vinegar. It is producedin the destructive distillation of wood. Itfinds extensive application in the chemicalindustry. It is used in the manufacture ofcellulose acetate, acetate rayon, and variousacetate and acetyl compounds; as a solventfor gums, oils, and resins; as a food preservative in printing and dyeing; and in organicsynthesis.
Acetic acid, CH3COOH, is a colorless, volatile liquid at ambient temperatures. The pure compound, glacial acetic acid, owes its name to its ice-like crystalline appearance at 15.6°C. As generally supplied, acetic acid is a 6 N aqueous solution (about 36%) or a 1 N solution (about 6%). These or other dilutions are used in adding appropriate amounts of acetic acid to foods. Acetic acid is the characteristic acid of vinegar, its concentration ranging from 3.5 to 5.6%. Acetic acid and acetates are present in most plants and animal tissues in small but detectable amounts. They are normal metabolic intermediates, are produced by such bacterial species as Acetobacter and can be synthesized completely from carbon dioxide by such microorganisms as Clostridium thermoaceticum. The rat forms acetate at the rate of 1% of its body weight per day.
