Hydriodic acid Market share- How big is the Hydriodic acid market?

Germany, the United States, and China are the leading exporters of hydriodic acid, collectively accounting for over 60% of global exports in 2023–2024, while pharmaceutical-manufacturing hubs—including India, South Korea, and Ireland—rank among the top importers. Imports by India and South Korea have risen steadily since 2022, coinciding with moderate upward pressure on hydriodic acid prices amid tightening supply from key European producers.

Hydriodic acid Market Analysis

Hydroiodic Acid Market Dynamics Intelligence

I. Price Trends
- Latest Price: As of July 6, 2026, the B2B reference price for hydroiodic acid on Shengyishe (Business Society) stands at RMB 370.00 per ton, unchanged from the beginning of this month.
- Recent Volatility: Since June 2026, the hydroiodic acid price has remained stable at RMB 370.00 per ton, with no significant fluctuations observed.
- Annual Statistics: Over the past year, the highest recorded price was RMB 375.00 per ton, the lowest was RMB 326.67 per ton, and the median price was RMB 350.84 per ton; the current price is at a relatively high level.

II. Market Supply and Demand
- Production Capacity Distribution: Global hydroiodic acid production capacity is concentrated primarily in the United States, Japan, China, India, and Vietnam. China’s domestic hydroiodic acid production capacity is approximately 1,000 tons per year, ranking third globally.
- Demand Growth: Driven by continuous expansion in pharmaceuticals, electronics, perfumery, dyes, and other downstream sectors, demand for hydroiodic acid continues to grow steadily. The global hydroiodic acid market size exceeded USD 0.74 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach USD 0.97 billion by 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.0%.
- Trade Developments: In 2018, China imposed anti-dumping duties on hydroiodic acid imports originating from the United States and Japan—123.4% on U.S. imports and 41.1% on Japanese imports—for a five-year period. In 2023, China’s Ministry of Commerce initiated a sunset review of these anti-dumping measures and decided to maintain the duties during the investigation period.

III. Downstream Applications
- Primary Uses: Hydroiodic acid is mainly employed as a catalyst in acetic acid synthesis, for preparing iodides, reducing graphene oxide, as an etchant in integrated circuit manufacturing, as a chemical and pharmaceutical intermediate, as a disinfectant, and as a raw material for dyes and fragrances—as well as an analytical reagent.
- Application Shifts: For enterprises such as Boyuan Chemical Co., Ltd., acetic acid industry remains the dominant end-use segment for hydroiodic acid; however, revenue from customers in the optoelectronics sector has declined.

IV. Competitive Landscape
- Key Producers: Leading global hydroiodic acid manufacturers include Iofina Chemical, Ajay-SQM Group, and ISE Chemicals Corporation. Collectively, the top three producers account for approximately 50% of global market share.
- Regional Markets: The Asia-Pacific region represents the largest global market for hydroiodic acid, holding around 45% of total market share. China, Japan, and India play pivotal roles within this regional market.

Analysis and Assessment

1. Price Stability: Recent price stability stems largely from balanced supply-demand dynamics and the ongoing impact of anti-dumping measures. Prices are expected to remain stable in the near term.
2. Demand Growth Potential: Ongoing development across downstream industries—especially pharmaceuticals and electronics—will sustain demand growth. As a critical raw material in these sectors, hydroiodic acid exhibits strong long-term demand potential.
3. Impact of Trade Policy: China’s imposition of anti-dumping duties on U.S. and Japanese hydroiodic acid imports has effectively safeguarded domestic industry while simultaneously influencing international pricing and trade flows. Future adjustments in trade policy will significantly affect the hydroiodic acid market.

Forecast

1. Price Trend: Hydroiodic acid prices are expected to remain stable in the short term. In the longer term, moderate upward pressure may emerge due to rising demand and capacity realignment.
2. Market Size: The global hydroiodic acid market will continue expanding, reaching an estimated USD 0.97 billion by 2030. As one of the world’s key markets, China’s domestic market size is also projected to grow steadily.
3. Competitive Landscape: Competition in the global hydroiodic acid market will intensify. Major producers are expected to enhance competitiveness through technological innovation, capacity expansion, and aggressive market-share acquisition. Meanwhile, the emergence of new players and growth in emerging markets will further reshape the competitive landscape.

About Hydriodic acid

Hydriodic acid is a colorless to pale yellow, fuming liquid with a sharp, acrid odor; it is highly volatile and miscible with water, with a boiling point of approximately 127 °C (at 760 mmHg) for the constant-boiling azeotrope (57% HI). It is a strong mineral acid and one of the hydrogen halides in aqueous solution. Hydriodic acid serves primarily as a reducing agent and catalyst in organic synthesis, especially in the preparation of alkyl iodides and in cleavage reactions of ethers and epoxides. Its principal industrial applications are as a key intermediate in pharmaceutical manufacturing (e.g., thyroid hormone analogs) and in the synthesis of iodinated contrast agents, agrochemicals, and specialty chemicals.

1. Used for producing organic iodide. As general reagents and pharmaceutical intermediates. 2. Used as the analysis reagents, also used in the preparation of the iodide. 3. Used as a reducing agent, also used in the synthesis of alkyl iodine and other alkyl iodide. 4. Used for Determination of methoxy, ethoxy and selenium, dissolution of acid-insoluble inorganic substance, such as an alkaline earth metal sulfate and mercury iodide and so on. Used as a reducing agent. Used for the preparation of iodide. 5. Used for Determination of methoxy, dissolution of acid-insoluble (especially hot) inorganic substance, such as an alkaline earth metal sulfate and mercury iodide and so on. Used as a reducing agent.
