Aluminum sulfate is a white, crystalline, odorless solid that is highly soluble in water and non-volatile; it decomposes before melting, typically above 200 °C. It is an inorganic salt composed of aluminum cations and sulfate anions. Aluminum sulfate serves primarily as a coagulant and flocculant in water and wastewater treatment, and as a mordant in textile dyeing and paper sizing. It is also used in the production of synthetic iron-based pigments, fire retardants, and catalysts, and finds application in construction materials (e.g., concrete accelerators) and soil pH adjustment in agriculture.
