2-Dimethylaminoethanol

2-Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE) is a colorless to pale yellow, hygroscopic liquid with a characteristic fishy or ammoniacal odor and moderate volatility. It is a tertiary amino alcohol, classified as an organic chemical intermediate. Industrially, it serves primarily as a precursor in the synthesis of choline chloride, betaine, and quaternary ammonium compounds—including corrosion inhibitors, fabric softeners, and surfactants. Its main application areas include agrochemicals (as a catalyst or modifier), pharmaceuticals (in choline-related formulations), and coatings (as a catalyst for polyurethane foams and epoxy curing agents).

dimethyl MEA (DMAE) is also known as dimethylaminoethanol. Studies indicate skin-firming properties, and an ability to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as dark circles under the eyes. It is considered anti-aging, and antiinflammatory, and has exhibited free-radical scavenging activity.
