Tripropylene glycol Market share- How big is the Tripropylene glycol market?

China, the United States, and Germany are the leading exporters of tripropylene glycol, collectively accounting for over 60% of global exports in recent years; major importers include South Korea, India, and Mexico, reflecting strong demand from Asia-Pacific and North American chemical manufacturing hubs. Exports from China have expanded steadily since 2022, while tripropylene glycol prices have remained relatively stable amid moderate supply-demand balance across key markets.

Tripropylene glycol Market Analysis

Market Dynamics Report on Tripropylene Glycol (TPG)

I. Price Trends
- Domestic Market: The domestic market price of TPG has recently shown narrow fluctuations, with mainstream transaction prices ranging from 12,000 to 13,500 RMB/ton. Some high-end quotes have risen slightly due to tight supply.
- International Market: The FOB China port price in Asia remains stable at $1,800–1,950/ton. Prices in European and American markets have seen a slight increase to $2,100–2,250/ton due to rising logistics costs.

II. Supply and Demand
- Supply Side:
- The operating rate of major domestic producers remains at 75%–80%. Although some units were temporarily shut down for environmental inspections, the overall supply volume has not fluctuated significantly.
- Import volumes have decreased by approximately 12% month-on-month due to rising international shipping costs and export restrictions in some countries. Inventory levels in the East China and South China regions remain low.
- Demand Side:
- Demand from downstream coating and resin industries remains steady. Driven by the recovery of the real estate sector, demand in the industrial coating segment has grown by approximately 5%.
- Demand for cosmetic-grade TPG has increased by 8% due to seasonal factors (autumn/winter skincare production), but high-end products still rely on imports.

III. Costs and Profitability
- Raw Material Prices: The price of propylene oxide (PO) has risen to 11,000–11,500 RMB/ton, driven by tight propylene supply, representing a year-on-year increase of approximately 10%, thereby pushing up the production cost of TPG.
- Profit Margins: The industry's average gross margin has compressed to 12%–15%. Some small and medium-sized enterprises have paused order acceptance due to cost pressures, leading to further market concentration.

IV. Policies and Industry Dynamics
- Environmental Policies: Multiple regions in China have strengthened VOCs emission controls, promoting the substitution of water-based coatings for oil-based ones, which indirectly benefits TPG demand.
- Trade Dynamics: US-China trade tensions have not directly impacted TPG imports and exports; however, expectations of RMB depreciation may increase import costs.

Analysis and Judgment
1. Short-term Drivers: High prices of propylene oxide, coupled with seasonal restocking by downstream coating industries, support firm TPG prices.
2. Medium-term Risks: If propylene oxide prices fall due to the release of new production capacity, or if downstream coating demand weakens due to real estate regulations, TPG prices may come under pressure.
3. Structural Opportunities: Cosmetic-grade TPG has significant potential for domestic substitution, and high-end products command strong premium pricing. Attention should be paid to the capacity expansion progress of relevant enterprises.

Price Forecast
- Next 1 Month: Domestic TPG prices are expected to oscillate in the range of 12,500–13,500 RMB/ton. Due to persistently high international logistics costs, international prices may slightly rise to $1,900–2,050/ton.
- Next 3–6 Months: If propylene oxide prices fall below 10,000 RMB/ton, the cost support for TPG will weaken, potentially pushing prices down to around 12,000 RMB/ton. Conversely, if downstream coating demand continues to recover, prices may stabilize and rise slightly.

About Tripropylene glycol

Tripropylene glycol is a colorless, viscous liquid with low volatility and a mild, characteristic odor; it has a boiling point of approximately 265–270 °C at atmospheric pressure and remains liquid at room temperature. It is classified as an aliphatic diol and belongs to the class of polypropylene glycols—specifically, a tripropylene ether derivative of glycol. As a versatile chemical intermediate, it is primarily used in the synthesis of plasticizers, unsaturated polyester resins, and surfactants. Its applications span coatings, inks, adhesives, and personal care formulations, where it functions as a co-solvent, humectant, or reactive diluent.

Intermediate in resins, plasticizers, pharmaceuticals, insecticides, dyestuffs, mold lubricants.
Tripropylene glycol is a water-white liquid. Soluble in water, methanol, ether. Combustible. One of its unique features is its combination of water-solubility and good solubility for many organic compounds. Because of high boiling point and low volatility it is used in the formulation of textile soaps, lubricants, cutting oils, and similar applications.

This chemical is included in Fine Chemicals. See more about what is Tripropylene glycol and Tripropylene glycol SDS information.
