Aluminum distearate is a white to off-white, waxy solid at room temperature, odorless and non-volatile, with a melting point typically in the range of 160–180 °C. It is classified as a metallic soap—a coordination compound formed from aluminum hydroxide and stearic acid—and functions as a metal carboxylate salt. Industrially, it is primarily used as a gelling agent, thickener, and stabilizer in lubricating greases, cosmetics, and personal care formulations. It also serves as a pigment dispersant and rheology modifier in coatings, inks, and polymer processing aids. Its applications are concentrated in industrial lubricants, architectural and industrial coatings, and cosmetic emulsions.
