Tetrabutyl Titanate

Tetrabutyl titanate (CAS 5593-70-4) is a clear, colorless to pale yellow liquid with a mild, chloroform-like odor and high volatility; it has a boiling point of approximately 280 °C and decomposes before melting. It is classified as an organometallic compound and specifically a titanium alkoxide. Primarily used as a precursor and catalyst in sol-gel processes, it serves as a key intermediate in the synthesis of titanium dioxide nanoparticles, metal oxide coatings, and hybrid organic–inorganic materials. Its principal applications are in advanced coatings, ceramic precursors, photocatalysts, and as a crosslinking agent in silicone and polysiloxane systems. It is widely employed in specialty coatings, optical thin films, and functionalized glass and ceramic manufacturing.
