Flumethrin Market Analysis

Market Intelligence Report on Flumethrin in Commercial Markets (Recent Updates)

I. Price Trends
- Current Price: As of May 14, 2026, the market price for domestically produced, GB-standard flumethrin in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, stands at RMB 76,500 per metric ton. Prices have remained stable over the past three months, sustaining at a high level.
- Historical Price Volatility:
- In 2025, the annual average market price declined from RMB 165,000 per metric ton (100% active ingredient basis) in 2024 to RMB 152,000 per metric ton, driven by new capacity releases and falling raw material costs.
- For 2026, the annual average price is projected to rebound to RMB 160,000 per metric ton, with a narrowed price fluctuation range—primarily attributable to rising environmental compliance costs and robust, inelastic export demand.
- Short-Term Fluctuations:
- January–February 2026: Prices remained stable within RMB 76,000–77,000 per metric ton, supported by downstream pre-holiday inventory buildup ahead of the Spring Festival.
- March–April 2026: With the onset of spring farming activities, agricultural demand surged, pushing prices slightly upward to approximately RMB 78,000 per metric ton; however, ample supply-side capacity capped further gains.

II. Supply-Demand Landscape
- Supply Side:
- Capacity Utilization: Industry-wide total capacity reached 18,200 metric tons in 2025, with actual output at 15,600 metric tons—yielding a capacity utilization rate of 85.7%, up 2.4 percentage points year-on-year versus 2024. Most manufacturers adopt a 'produce-to-order' strategy.
- Environmental Constraints: The Ministry of Ecology and Environment has added cyanide-containing pyrethroid intermediates to its key emission monitoring list. New projects must install integrated RTO (Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer) incineration plus advanced biological treatment systems, increasing initial fixed-asset investment by 37%. Consequently, smaller and medium-sized producers exhibit diminished expansion willingness.
- Industry Concentration: The CR5 (combined market share of the top five enterprises) is projected to rise from 59.8% in 2025 to 69.4% in 2026, as leading firms consolidate their positions through cleaner production technologies and comprehensive EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) management systems.
- Demand Side:
- Export Demand: China’s flumethrin exports totaled 13,600 metric tons in 2025, representing an 8.1% year-on-year increase. Key destinations include Brazil, Vietnam, Pakistan, and Indonesia. Robust and inelastic demand from Southeast Asia and South America in 2026 is expected to sustain industry prosperity.
- Domestic Demand: Ongoing implementation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs’ “Chemical Pesticide Reduction Action Plan (to 2030)” mandates an average annual reduction of 1.2% in pesticide application intensity for the three staple grain crops. This policy accelerates industry transformation toward highly active, low-dosage, and readily biodegradable single-active-ingredient formulations.

III. Technological Evolution and Product Upgrading
- High-Efficiency Chiral Flumethrin (S-Cyphenothrin):
- Jiangsu Yangnong Chemical Co., Ltd. achieved pilot-scale commercial production of S-cyphenothrin in Q3 2025. Field trials demonstrate a 2.3-fold enhancement in bioefficacy compared to the racemic mixture, alongside a 40% reduction in mammalian toxicity. The product has obtained provisional registration from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
- Commercial rollout is scheduled for H2 2026, targeting premium markets including high-value fruits/vegetables and organic tea plantations. Its targeted ex-factory price is expected to exceed RMB 120,000 per metric ton, establishing a new premium pricing tier.
- Growth of Novel Formulations:
- In 2025, suspension concentrates (SC) and microencapsulated suspension (CS) formulations containing flumethrin accounted for 41.7% of total formulation volume—a 19.2 percentage-point increase since 2022. These advanced delivery systems reduce unit effective-ingredient usage cost by 14.3%, thereby indirectly boosting procurement demand for technical-grade active ingredient.

IV. Policy and Market Risks
- Policy Support:
- EU Regulation EU2023/1277, effective July 2025, tightens Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for flumethrin on certain fruit and vegetable crops to 0.01 mg/kg, potentially reshaping high-end export order composition.
- Environmental Compliance Costs:
- The full-year 2026 average price is projected to rebound to RMB 160,000 per metric ton, with continued narrowing of price volatility range and sustained supply-demand tight balance.

Analytical Assessment and Outlook

I. Price Trend Forecast
