Diamond

Diamond is a naturally occurring, crystalline allotrope of carbon, appearing as a transparent to translucent, extremely hard solid with no odor or volatility. It is classified as an elemental substance (pure carbon) in its diamond cubic crystal structure and has no defined boiling point; it sublimes above ~4,000 °C under inert conditions. Diamond is not used as a chemical intermediate but serves primarily in industrial applications requiring exceptional thermal conductivity, hardness, and optical transparency. Key uses include cutting, grinding, and drilling tools; heat sinks in high-power electronics; optical windows for lasers and sensors; and wear-resistant coatings.
