Hydrogen selenide serves primarily as a precursor in the synthesis of metal selenide compounds—especially for semiconductor applications—and as a reagent in the preparation of organic selenium-containing molecules. Its principal industrial applications are in electronic materials manufacturing (e.g., thin-film photovoltaic cells and infrared detectors) and as a dopant or source material in specialized metallurgical and catalytic processes.
