Silver iodide is a yellow to greenish-yellow crystalline solid at room temperature, odorless and non-volatile, with a melting point of approximately 558 °C and decomposition before boiling. It is an inorganic compound classified as a metal halide salt. Silver iodide is primarily used in cloud seeding operations for weather modification due to its crystal structure similarity to ice, and it serves as a precursor in the production of photographic emulsions and specialized optical materials. It finds application in specialty electronics, such as solid electrolytes in silver-ion batteries, and in certain antimicrobial coatings where controlled silver ion release is required.
