2-Chlorobutane Market share- How big is the 2-Chlorobutane market?

China and Germany are the leading exporters of 2-Chlorobutane (CAS 78-86-4), accounting for the largest shares of global shipments in recent years, while the United States, South Korea, and India represent the top importing markets. Trade volumes have remained relatively stable since 2022, with modest regional shifts in sourcing—particularly increased imports by Indian pharmaceutical manufacturers—coinciding with moderate fluctuations in 2-Chlorobutane prices.

About 2-Chlorobutane

2-Chlorobutane is a colorless, volatile liquid with a chloroform-like odor, boiling at approximately 68–70 °C and melting at −14 °C. It is a secondary alkyl chloride and classified as an organic chemical intermediate. Industrially, it serves primarily as a precursor in the synthesis of other butyl compounds, including pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and specialty chemicals. Its main applications are in the production of flavoring agents, fragrances, and as a reagent in Grignard and alkylation reactions. It is used in research and manufacturing contexts where controlled chlorination or carbon-chain extension is required.
