Amino-2-propanol

Amino-2-propanol (CAS 78-96-6) is a colorless to pale yellow, hygroscopic liquid with a mild ammonia-like odor and moderate volatility. It is a secondary aliphatic amino alcohol, characterized by a boiling point of approximately 157 °C and complete miscibility with water and common organic solvents. As a versatile functional intermediate, it is widely employed in the synthesis of corrosion inhibitors, chelating agents, and pharmaceutical actives. Its primary applications span agrochemicals (e.g., herbicide and fungicide formulations), personal care products (as a pH adjuster and emulsifier stabilizer), and specialty polymers—including epoxy curing agents and polyurethane dispersions.

Synthetic andsemisynthetic machine lubricating/cutting oil formulationshave included isopropanolamine, diisopropanolamine, andtriethanolamine, together with nitrites; consequently the EPA has promulgated standards regarding the compositionof cutting fluids. No additional uses were found in theliterature.
