I. Market Price Dynamics
1. Recent Quotations
- From June 16 to June 23, 2026, domestic TBBPA prices in China exhibited regional divergence:
Weifang, Shandong Province: Ex-factory price remained stable at RMB 25,000/ton (premium grade, Shandong Qiangsen Chemical Co., Ltd.).
Suzhou, Jiangsu Province: Quotation fluctuated around RMB 55,500/ton (premium grade, Suzhou Senfeida Chemical Co., Ltd.), significantly higher than other regions—likely attributable to supply of high-end electronic-grade products.
Bromine (key raw material): Market price in Shandong was RMB 33,400/ton on June 17; it weakened to RMB 34,500/ton on June 16 (Weifang Yahua reduced its quotation), reflecting short-term volatility in the raw material market.

2. Price Drivers
- Raw Material Costs: Bromine prices remain at elevated levels (average ~RMB 33,000–34,500/ton in 2026), underpinning the cost floor for TBBPA.
- Supply–Demand Dynamics: Premium pricing for electronic-grade TBBPA (e.g., metal impurities ≤5 ppm) reached a premium rate of 38.2%, driven by robust demand from high-growth sectors such as 5G base stations and AI servers—fueling structural price increases.
- Policy Impact: The Ministry of Ecology and Environment’s “Action Plan for Emerging Pollutant Governance” did not include TBBPA in its first batch of controlled substances, alleviating near-term substitution pressure. However, long-term environmental compliance costs (e.g., stricter VOCs emission limits) continue to raise industry entry barriers.

II. Supply–Demand Analysis
1. Supply Side
- Rising Industry Concentration: In 2025, the industry’s CR5 (combined market share of top five producers) reached 67.8%. Leading enterprises—including Shandong Tian’an Chemical, Jiangsu Suli Fine Chemical, and Zhejiang Wansheng Co., Ltd.—have consolidated market positions through high-purity process upgrades and environmental certifications.
- Technical Barriers: Producing electronic-grade TBBPA requires stringent specifications—e.g., metal impurities ≤5 ppm and residual dibromopropanol ≤8 ppm—posing significant challenges for new entrants, with customer qualification cycles exceeding 14 months.
- Export Growth: Export volume increased by 18.5% year-on-year in 2025, primarily targeting India, Southeast Asia, and Europe—boosted by localized procurement demands arising from overseas PCB manufacturing facilities established by Chinese firms.

2. Demand Side
- Downstream Application Expansion:
Electronic & Electrical Sector: Surging demand for high-frequency, high-speed copper-clad laminates (CCL) used in 5G-Advanced (5G-A) base stations and AI servers. Domestic high-frequency CCL output is projected to reach 1.26 billion square meters in 2026, lifting TBBPA consumption to 2.12 kg/m2.
New Energy Vehicles (NEVs): Annual production surpassed 12 million units; strong demand persists for enhanced flame retardancy in wiring harnesses and battery modules.
Emerging Applications: BYD’s blade battery module encapsulation materials utilize a TBBPA–phosphorus–nitrogen synergistic composite flame-retardant masterbatch; this application is expected to generate an additional RMB 120 million in revenue in 2026.
Regional Demand Divergence: The Asia-Pacific region accounts for 65% of global consumption, with China alone representing 40%—making it the primary growth engine. In contrast, European demand growth slowed to 2.8% due to REACH regulatory constraints.

III. Competitive Landscape & Corporate Developments
1. Strategic Initiatives of Key Players
- Shandong Tian’an Chemical:
Achieved mass production of electronic-grade TBBPA; accounted for 31.6% of 2025 output volume, certified by leading CCL manufacturers including Shengyi Technology and Nanya New Materials.
Commissioned a flexible production facility for novel brominated flame retardants with annual capacity of 12,000 tons, reducing comprehensive energy consumption per unit by 12.7%.
- Jiangsu Suli Fine Chemical:
Developed a TBBPA–phosphorus–nitrogen synergistic composite flame-retardant masterbatch, applied in BYD’s blade batteries; completed small-batch deliveries in 2025.
Obtained ISO 14067 carbon footprint certification and expanded the proportion of high-purity product supply.
- Zhejiang Wansheng Co., Ltd.:
Leveraged vertical integration within the CCL industrial chain to increase its supply share to 38% of total procurement volumes by major domestic CCL manufacturers.

2. Industry Concentration
- In 2025, the CR3 (Shandong Tian’an, Jiangsu Suli, Zhejiang Wansheng) market share reached 64.2%, up 7.1 percentage points from 2023. Environmental compliance costs and process control complexity constitute substantive barriers to market entry.

IV. Market Outlook & Risks
1. Short-Term Outlook (2026)
- Market Size: Expected to reach RMB 3.412 billion, representing a 15.4% YoY growth—though growth momentum moderates slightly, absolute incremental expansion reaches RMB 454 million.

About Tetrabromobisphenol A

Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) is a white to off-white crystalline solid with low volatility and no significant odor; it has a melting point of approximately 180–184 °C. It is an aromatic organobromine compound and a brominated derivative of bisphenol A. Primarily used as a reactive flame retardant, TBBPA serves as a key intermediate in the synthesis of brominated epoxy resins and polycarbonates. Its principal applications are in printed circuit boards, electronic enclosures, and other electrical and electronic equipment requiring enhanced fire resistance. It is also employed in certain high-performance polymers and engineering plastics where halogenated flame retardancy is specified.

tetrabromobisphenol A is widely used as a reactive flame retardant to produce a bromine-containing epoxy resin and polycarbonate, and as intermediates for the synthesis of other complex flame retardant, also as an additive flame retardant for ABS, HIPS, unsaturated polyester rigid polyurethane foams, adhesives and coatings.
Tetrabromobisphenol A is a white to pale cream or pale yellow crystalline with a moderately high molecular weight, low water solubility, and moderately high lipophilicity (as indicated by log Kow). Only about 4% of the particles are <15 μm in diameter, and thus, little (<4%) is expected to be respirable (<10 μm in diameter) and absorbed from the lung after inhalation exposure.
