Pyromellitic acid (CAS 89-05-4) is a white to off-white crystalline solid at room temperature, odorless and non-volatile, with a high melting point of approximately 480 °C (decomposes). It is an aromatic tetracarboxylic acid and a key organic chemical intermediate. Industrially, it is primarily used in the synthesis of pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA), a critical monomer for high-performance polyimide polymers. These polyimides are employed in demanding applications including flexible printed circuit boards, wire enamels, aerospace composites, and high-temperature adhesives and coatings.
