Calcium chloride dihydrate

Calcium chloride dihydrate is a white, crystalline, hygroscopic solid at room temperature, odorless and non-volatile, with a melting point of approximately 176 °C (with decomposition). It is an inorganic salt and a hydrated metal halide. Primarily used for its strong moisture-absorbing and freezing-point depression properties, it serves as a desiccant, dust suppressant, de-icer, and set accelerator in concrete. It is also employed as a source of calcium ions in water treatment, oilfield brines, and food processing (e.g., firming agent). Typical application areas include construction materials, road maintenance, industrial refrigeration, and food-grade formulations.

Calcium chloride dihydrate is an odourless white solid in the form of small flakes. It is deliquescent (absorbs moisture from the air) and rapidly dissolves in water producing heat (exothermic). It has many industrial applications and is commonly used to prevent dusting, as a drying agent and to melt ice. It is used in swimming pools and aquariums as a pH buffer and a rapid source of calcium ions.
Calcium chloride is a colorless to off-whitecrystalline solid which is deliquescent (absorb water).When heated, crystals lose water @ 100C.
