Diphenyl carbonate is a white crystalline solid at room temperature, with a mild aromatic odor and moderate volatility; it melts at approximately 78–79 °C and boils at around 302 °C. Its primary industrial use is in the non-phosgene production of polycarbonate resins via interfacial or melt transesterification with bisphenol A. It is also employed in the synthesis of aryl carbamates for pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals, and occasionally as a solvent or blocking agent in coatings and electronic materials.
