Cyanuric acid is a white, crystalline solid with no significant odor and low volatility; it decomposes before boiling and has a high melting point of approximately 360 °C. It is a heterocyclic organic compound—specifically, a triazine derivative—and functions primarily as a chemical intermediate. Its principal industrial use is in the production of chlorinated isocyanurates (e.g., trichloroisocyanuric acid), widely employed as stable chlorine-releasing disinfectants and sanitizers for swimming pools and industrial water treatment. It is also used in the synthesis of melamine resins and certain UV stabilizers for coatings and plastics. Key application areas include water treatment chemicals, polymer additives, and specialty agrochemical formulations.
