Hexane is a clear, volatile, colorless liquid with a mild gasoline-like odor. It is a saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon (alkane) consisting of six carbon atoms, with a boiling point of approximately 69 °C and a melting point of −95 °C. Hexane is widely used as a nonpolar solvent in industrial extraction processes—particularly for vegetable oils—and in the formulation of adhesives, inks, and cleaning agents. It serves as a feedstock for catalytic reforming and is employed in the production of other hydrocarbons and specialty chemicals. Its primary application areas include coatings, polymers, and the manufacture of rubber and synthetic resins.
