Bismuth trioxide (Bi₂O₃) is a yellow to pale yellow crystalline powder at room temperature, odorless and non-volatile, with a high melting point of approximately 825 °C and decomposition before boiling. It is an inorganic metal oxide and the most stable oxide of bismuth. Bismuth trioxide serves primarily as a precursor in the production of bismuth-containing compounds, including catalysts, electronic ceramics, and bismuth-based pharmaceuticals. It is widely used in the manufacture of high-performance dielectric materials for capacitors, in optoelectronic glasses (e.g., low-melting sealing glasses), and as a component in flame-retardant additives and pigments. Typical application areas include electronics, specialty glass, ceramic glazes, and catalysis.
