Kaolin Market share- How big is the Kaolin market?

In 2023–2024, the United States, Brazil, and the United Kingdom were the leading exporters of kaolin (CAS 1332-58-7), collectively accounting for over half of global exports, while China, Germany, and South Korea ranked as the top importers. Kaolin prices have remained relatively stable amid steady demand from paper, ceramics, and pharmaceutical sectors. Export volumes from Brazil increased notably in 2024, reinforcing its position as the world’s largest kaolin exporter, while Chinese imports grew modestly despite domestic production expansion.

About Kaolin

Kaolin is a fine, white to off-white, odorless, non-volatile, crystalline powder with a soft, earthy texture and low density. It is a naturally occurring hydrated aluminum silicate mineral, classified as a phyllosilicate clay, with the approximate chemical formula Al₂Si₂O₅(OH)₄. Kaolin is not used as a chemical intermediate in synthesis but serves primarily as a functional filler, extender, and rheology modifier in industrial formulations. Its principal applications include paper coating and filling (to enhance brightness, opacity, and printability), ceramics (as a key raw material for porcelain and sanitaryware), paints and coatings (for improved suspension and matte finish), rubber (as a reinforcing filler), and plastics (for dimensional stability and surface smoothness).
