Tetrahydrofuran (THF) is a clear, colorless, volatile liquid with a chloroform-like odor and moderate water miscibility. It is a cyclic ether with a boiling point of 66 °C and a melting point of −108 °C. As a polar aprotic solvent and versatile organic chemical intermediate, THF is widely employed in polymerization reactions—particularly in the production of polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG)—and as a reaction medium in Grignard and lithiation chemistry.
