Potassium bicarbonate

Potassium bicarbonate is a white, crystalline, odorless solid that is non-volatile and highly soluble in water; it decomposes before melting, typically above 120 °C. It is an inorganic salt and the potassium salt of carbonic acid. Primarily used as a buffering agent, pH regulator, and source of potassium in food and pharmaceutical applications, it also serves as a mild alkali in fire extinguishing formulations and as a catalyst or reagent in organic synthesis. Its key application areas include food additives (e.g., leavening agents), pharmaceutical excipients, and agricultural products such as fungicidal sprays.
