Potassium sulfate is a white, crystalline, odorless solid that is non-volatile and highly soluble in water; it has a melting point of approximately 1069 °C and decomposes before boiling. It is an inorganic salt, specifically the potassium salt of sulfuric acid. Primarily used as a chloride-free source of potassium in fertilizers, it serves as a key nutrient supplement in high-value crops sensitive to chloride, such as tobacco, fruits, vegetables, and potatoes. It is also employed in the manufacture of potassium alum, glass, and certain food additives (e.g., as a dough conditioner or stabilizer), and finds limited use in laboratory reagents and pharmaceutical excipients.
Technical grades are used in fertilizers for manufacture of potassium alum, potassium carbonate and glass; the reagent grade is used in the Kjeldahl determination of nitrogen.
Potassium sulfate,K2804, also known as salt of Lemery and arcanite, is a colorless crystalline solid that melts at 1072°C(1960 OF). It is soluble in water,but insoluble in alcohol. Potassium sulfate is used in manufacturing glass, aluminum, fertilizers, and in medicine.
