Lecithin Market Analysis

Recent Market Dynamics of Soybean Lecithin

I. Price Trends
1. Domestic Market: Recently, the price of soybean lecithin in the domestic market has shown a stable trend with a slight increase. The mainstream market quotation range is between 12,000 and 15,000 yuan per ton, representing an increase of approximately 2%-3% compared to the same period last month. The price increase of food-grade soybean lecithin is slightly higher than that of industrial-grade, mainly driven by the growing demand from the downstream food industry.
2. International Market: The price of soybean lecithin in the international market has shown slight fluctuations, influenced by raw soybean costs and exchange rate volatility. The FOB price in the US market is approximately 1,800-2,200 USD per ton, while the CIF price in the European market is approximately 2,000-2,400 EUR per ton. Both have remained basically flat compared to last month, but local areas have seen slight increases due to supply shortages.

II. Supply and Demand Situation
1. Supply Side:
- Raw Material Supply: Global soybean production is expected to remain stable, but due to climate and planting area impacts, soybean supply in some production areas is slightly tight, pushing up the production cost of soybean lecithin.
- Production Status: The operating rate of domestic soybean lecithin production enterprises has remained stable. However, due to environmental protection policies, some small-capacity enterprises have suspended operations for rectification, leading to a slight contraction in market supply.
- Import Situation: The volume of imported soybean lecithin has increased, mainly from major soybean-producing countries such as the United States and Brazil. However, due to international logistics and tariffs, import costs have risen.
2. Demand Side:
- Food Industry: With the expansion of the health food market, the demand for soybean lecithin as a food additive continues to grow, especially in baking, dairy products, and health supplement sectors.
- Industrial Sector: In industries such as cosmetics, coatings, and plastics, the demand for soybean lecithin as an emulsifier and stabilizer remains stable, but growth is limited due to economic environmental factors.

III. Market Drivers
1. Cost Push: The rise in soybean prices has directly increased the production cost of soybean lecithin, becoming the main driver for price increases.
2. Demand Growth: The growing demand from the food industry, particularly in the high-end health food market, has led to higher quality requirements for soybean lecithin, driving the demand for high-quality products.
3. Policy Impact: Strengthened environmental protection policies have caused some small-capacity enterprises to suspend operations, reducing market supply and supporting prices.
4. International Market: Fluctuations in international soybean market prices and exchange rate changes affect the cost of imported soybean lecithin, thereby impacting domestic market prices.

IV. Analysis and Judgment
1. Short-term: Affected by rising raw material costs and supply shortages, soybean lecithin prices will continue to show a stable trend with a slight increase in the short term.
2. Medium-term: With the arrival of new-season soybeans and the resumption of production by domestic enterprises, market supply is expected to increase, and the rate of price increases may slow down. However, supported by growing demand, prices are unlikely to drop significantly.
3. Long-term: The continuous expansion of the health food market and the increasing demand for eco-friendly additives in the industrial sector will promote the long-term positive development of the soybean lecithin market.

V. Forecast
1. Price Forecast: In the next three months, domestic soybean lecithin prices are expected to fluctuate within the range of 12,500-15,500 yuan per ton. International market prices may experience slightly larger fluctuations due to raw material and exchange rate influences.
2. Supply and Demand Forecast: With the increased supply of new-season soybeans, the tight supply situation in the market will ease, but strong demand growth will continue, maintaining an overall balanced supply and demand relationship.
3. Market Trend: The soybean lecithin market will show trends of quality upgrades and expansion of application areas, with high-quality, multi-functional products being more popular in the market.

About Lecithin

Edible and digestible surfactant and emulsifier of natural origin. Used in margarine, chocolate and in the food industry in general. In pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Many other industrial uses, e.g. treating leather and textiles.
Lecithins vary greatly in their physical form, from viscoussemiliquids to powders, depending upon the free fatty acid content. They may also vary in color from brown to light yellow, dependingupon whether they are bleached or unbleached or on the degree ofpurity. When they are exposed to air, rapid oxidation occurs, alsoresulting in a dark yellow or brown color. Lecithins have practically no odor. Those derived from vegetablesources have a bland or nutlike taste, similar to that of soybean oil.

This chemical is included in Fine Chemicals - Cosmetics Raw Materials. See more about what is Lecithin and Lecithin SDS information.
