Asphalt Market share- How big is the Asphalt market?

In 2023–2024, the leading exporters of Asphalt (CAS 8052-42-4) were Russia, the United States, and Saudi Arabia, collectively accounting for over 40% of global exports by value; major importers included China, India, and Turkey, driven by infrastructure development and road construction demand. Imports by Southeast Asian and African nations have risen steadily since 2022, coinciding with regional infrastructure initiatives and moderate volatility in Asphalt prices.

About Asphalt

Asphalt (CAS 8052-42-4) is a black, viscous, temperature-sensitive material that is solid at ambient temperatures but softens and becomes pliable upon heating; it exhibits low volatility and no distinct boiling point due to its complex, non-distillable nature. It is classified as a heterogeneous mixture of high-molecular-weight hydrocarbons—including saturated aliphatics, naphthenes, and polycyclic aromatic compounds—derived primarily from petroleum refining. Asphalt is predominantly used in road construction and roofing applications, where its binding, waterproofing, and adhesive properties are essential. It serves as a key binder in hot-mix asphalt (HMA) pavements and as a component in built-up roofing membranes, sealants, and industrial coatings. Its formulation may be modified with polymers or additives to enhance performance in specific infrastructure and building applications.

Asphalt fumes arise fromasphalt used for road construction, roofing, andcoating of construction materials and in associationwith the production of asphalt frompetroleum; in asphalt-based paints
Asphalt fumes are flammable when hot andmay contain hydrogen sulfide and human carcinogen, suchas benzo(a)pyrene and dibenz(a,h)anthracene. Fumes generatedduring the production or application of asphalt (adark-brown to black cement-like substance manufacturedby the vacuum distillation of crude petroleum oil).
