Coke (coal) Market share- How big is the Coke (coal) market?

In 2023–2024, the leading exporters of Coke (coal) were the United States, Russia, and Australia, collectively accounting for over 50% of global exports by value; major importers included Japan, South Korea, and India, which rely heavily on imported Coke (coal) for steel production. Imports by Japan and South Korea have remained relatively stable despite recent fluctuations in Coke (coal) prices, while India’s import volume increased modestly amid expanding domestic steel capacity.

About Coke (coal)

Coke (coal) is a hard, porous, black solid with a dull luster and no significant odor; it is non-volatile and does not melt or boil under normal industrial conditions. It is a carbon-rich residue produced by the high-temperature pyrolysis of bituminous coal and is classified as a manufactured carbon material rather than a discrete chemical compound. Primarily used as a fuel and reducing agent in blast furnaces for iron and steel production, it also serves as a critical feedstock in the manufacture of calcium carbide, silicon metals, and phosphorus. Its principal application areas include metallurgy, ferroalloy production, and as a carbon source in electrode manufacturing for electrochemical processes.
