Polypropylene is a white, semi-crystalline thermoplastic polymer that is odorless, non-toxic, and insoluble in water. It is classified as a synthetic addition polymer derived from propylene monomer, belonging to the polyolefin family. With a typical melting point range of 130–171 °C (depending on tacticity and crystallinity), it exhibits high chemical resistance, good mechanical strength, and low density. Polypropylene is primarily used as a bulk polymer in injection molding, fiber production, and film extrusion—serving key roles in packaging, automotive components, medical devices, and nonwoven fabrics. It is also employed in the manufacture of battery cases, laboratory equipment, and food containers due to its thermal stability and compatibility with sterilization processes.
