Lauric acid Market share- How big is the Lauric acid market?

Indonesia and the Philippines are the leading global exporters of lauric acid, accounting for the majority of supply due to their domestic coconut oil feedstock advantage; major importers include the United States, Germany, and China, which rely on imported lauric acid for surfactant and oleochemical manufacturing. Trade volumes have remained relatively stable over the past three years, with modest upward pressure on lauric acid prices reflecting tightening supply margins amid steady demand from personal care and detergent sectors.

Lauric acid Market Analysis

Lauric Acid Market Dynamics Intelligence and Analysis Forecast

I. Recent Price Trends
- East China Region: As of June 30, 2026, the mainstream negotiated price stands at RMB 16,500–17,000 per metric ton, rebounding by RMB 1,100/ton (a 7.03% increase) from the early-June low of RMB 15,300–16,000/ton.
- Regional Disparities:
- Zibo City, Shandong Province (Shandong Qiangsen Chemical Co., Ltd.): Exported 99% purity lauric acid ex-factory price is RMB 16,800/ton (quoted on July 6, 2026).
- Nantong City, Jiangsu Province (Nantong Zhonghe Chemical New Materials Co., Ltd.): Imported 99% purity lauric acid market price is RMB 16,700/ton (quoted on June 26, 2026).
- Wuhan City, Hubei Province: Domestic sodium laurate (36% concentration) prices remain stable at RMB 6,500–6,600/ton; reagent-grade high-purity products exhibit significant price divergence (e.g., 99% purity sodium laurate quoted between RMB 21/kg and RMB 2,000/ton).

II. Market Drivers
1. Raw Material Cost Support:
- Palm kernel oil prices are trending upward, and overseas lauric acid prices have generally strengthened. Most cargoes scheduled for arrival in July are already committed to existing orders, tightening near-term supply.
- In H2 2025, lauric acid prices ranged between RMB 14,000–17,000/ton, averaging approximately RMB 15,530/ton — a 12% decline year-on-year versus H1 2025. However, palm kernel oil prices remained relatively stable in early 2026, sustaining cost-support expectations.

2. Supply-Demand Dynamics:
- Supply Side: Domestic sodium laurate production capacity is concentrated in Hubei Province (especially Wuhan). Global capacity utilization is projected to rise to 75%–80%, heightening oversupply risks; nevertheless, short-term tightness in imported cargo arrivals is supporting recent price rebounds.
- Demand Side: The personal care industry (e.g., facial cleansers, body washes) accounts for over 60% of downstream demand. However, elevated prices in 2025 prompted formulation adjustments and reduced essential demand. In early 2026, demand recovery remains muted, with procurement largely limited to production-maintenance requirements.

3. Substitutes and Policy Impact:
- Growing demand for green surfactants such as sodium lauroyl glutamate is exerting long-term competitive pressure on the sodium laurate market.
- Stricter environmental regulations are accelerating industry consolidation, enabling leading enterprises — leveraging technological advantages — to capture greater market share, while smaller and medium-sized manufacturers face mounting cost pressures.

III. Competitive Landscape and Key Players
- Domestic Suppliers:
- Shandong Qiangsen Chemical Co., Ltd. (imported 99% lauric acid, ex-factory price: RMB 16,800/ton)
- Nantong Zhonghe Chemical New Materials Co., Ltd. (imported 99% lauric acid, market price: RMB 16,700/ton)
- Hubei Qibajiu Chemical Co., Ltd. and Wuhan Xinyangruihe Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. (leading domestic sodium laurate producers maintaining market share through process optimization and supply chain integration)
- International Influence: Overseas negotiation flexibility has widened; global factors — including crude oil prices, exchange rates, and trade barriers — directly impact domestic pricing. Enterprises are increasingly seeking profitability in overseas markets to offset sluggish domestic demand.

IV. Outlook (1–3 Months)
1. Price Trend:
- Short-Term Strength: Supported by robust palm kernel oil prices, strengthening overseas benchmarks, and tight near-term import supply, domestic lauric acid prices are expected to remain elevated throughout July 2026.
- Medium-to-Long-Term Pressure: Rising global capacity utilization, intensifying oversupply risks, slowing growth in the personal care sector (projected at 4%–5%), and increasing penetration of green alternatives may exert downward pressure on prices.

2. Key Risk Factors:
- Upside Risks: Unexpected surge in palm kernel oil prices; environmental policy enforcement triggering shutdowns among small- and medium-sized producers (supply-side contraction).
- Downside Risks: Sharp increase in lauric acid imports; accelerated adoption of green substitutes (demand-side erosion).

3. Strategic Recommendations:
- For Suppliers: Closely monitor palm kernel oil price volatility and adopt flexible procurement and sales strategies; enhance supply chain resilience and optimize channel structure.
- For Downstream Users: Secure low-cost raw material inventory in advance; progressively replace conventional surfactants to mitigate long-term cost pressures.

About Lauric acid

Lauric acid is a white, crystalline solid at room temperature with a faint, soapy odor and low volatility; it melts at approximately 44–46 °C and boils at 298–300 °C at atmospheric pressure. It is a saturated medium-chain fatty acid (C12:0) and classified as an organic chemical intermediate. Industrially, it serves primarily as a precursor in the production of lauryl sulfate surfactants (e.g., sodium lauryl sulfate), esters for cosmetics and lubricants, and amides for corrosion inhibitors and fabric softeners. Its principal application areas include personal care products, detergents, industrial cleaning formulations, and specialty polymers.

1. lauric acid Used for the preparation of alkyd resins, as well as wetting agents, detergents and pesticides2. Used for peeling vegetables and fruits with a maximum amount of 3.0g/kg.3. Used as defoamer; GB 2760-86 provides for the spices allowed to use; used for the preparation of other food grade additives.4. lauric acid is widely used in the surfactant industry and can be, according to the classification of surfactants, divided into cationic, anionic, non-ionic and amphoteric type. The surfactants types of dodecanoic acid are listed in the attached table of this item. Some surfactants of the derivatives of dodecanoic acid and dodecanol are also antiseptics, such as dodecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride (geramine), dodecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium bromide (bromo-geramine) and dodecyl dimethyl (2-phenoxyethyl) ammonium bromide (domiphen bromide). The dodecyldimethyllammonium-2,4,5-trichlorophenolate in these derivatives can be used as citrus preservative. Dodecanoic acid also has many applications in plastic additives, food additives, spices and pharmaceutical industries.
Colorless needle-like crystals. Soluble in methanol, slightly soluble in acetone and petroleum ether.
