Retinol Market share- How big is the Retinol market?

Germany, the United States, and China are the leading exporters of Retinol (CAS 68-26-8), collectively accounting for over half of global export value, while the United States, South Korea, and India are the largest importers. Retinol prices have remained relatively stable amid steady demand from pharmaceutical and cosmetic manufacturing hubs. Export volumes from China have increased notably since 2022, reflecting expanded API production capacity, while imports into South Korea and India have grown consistently, underscoring regional formulation and finished-product manufacturing expansion.

About Retinol

Retinol (CAS 68-26-8) is a pale yellow to light orange crystalline solid at room temperature, with a faint characteristic odor and low volatility; it melts between 59–63 °C and is sensitive to heat, light, and oxidation. It is a diterpenoid alcohol and a member of the retinoid class of organic compounds, structurally defined by a β-ionone ring linked to an isoprenoid side chain. Retinol serves primarily as a biochemical precursor and key intermediate in the synthesis of retinal, retinoic acid, and vitamin A esters. Its principal commercial applications are in pharmaceuticals—especially for dermatological and nutritional formulations—and in cosmetics, where it functions as a biologically active form of vitamin A. It is also used in animal feed premixes to meet dietary vitamin A requirements.

Vitamin A1 (retinal) is produced from (3-carotene, which can be obtainedby fermentation of corn, soybean meal, kerosene, thiamin, and oc-ionone.The dry-mass after fermentation contains 120 to 150 g product/kg.
