Carbonato de bário

O carbonato de bário (CAS 513-77-9) é um composto inorgânico sólido, cristalino, geralmente apresentado como um pó branco inodoro e não volátil, com ponto de decomposição acima de 1300 °C. Classifica-se quimicamente como um sal metálico de ácido carbônico, derivado do bário divalente. É amplamente empregado como intermediário na síntese de outros compostos de bário, notadamente no preparo de peróxido de bário, óxido de bário e sais solúveis utilizados em processos catalíticos especializados. Suas aplicações industriais concentram-se nos setores de cerâmicas avançadas — onde atua como fundente e agente desgaseificante —, vidraria óptica — para melhorar o índice de refração e a transparência — e fabricação de componentes eletrônicos, como capacitores dielétricos e materiais piezelétricos. Além disso, encontra uso limitado, mas estratégico, na produção de pigmentos especiais e em ligas metálicas para controle de microestrutura.
