Toluylene diisocyanate (TDI) is a colorless to pale yellow, viscous liquid with a sharp, pungent odor and moderate volatility; it typically melts near 0–5 °C and boils at approximately 250–260 °C under reduced pressure. It is an aromatic diisocyanate and a key organic chemical intermediate. TDI is primarily used in the production of flexible polyurethane foams for bedding, furniture, and automotive seating, as well as in coatings, adhesives, sealants, and elastomers. Its reactivity with polyols makes it a critical monomer in polyurethane polymer synthesis across industrial, construction, and transportation sectors.
