Sodium bicarbonate

Sodium bicarbonate is a white, crystalline, odorless solid that is non-volatile and decomposes at approximately 50 °C (releasing CO₂ and forming sodium carbonate). It is an inorganic salt and weak base, chemically classified as a hydrogen carbonate. It serves as a pH regulator, buffering agent, and mild alkali in numerous industrial processes, including the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, dyes, and catalysts. Key application areas include food processing (as a leavening agent), pharmaceutical formulations (e.g., antacids), fire suppression systems (dry chemical extinguishers), and flue gas desulfurization in power generation. It is also used in water treatment and as a precursor in the production of sodium carbonate and sodium phosphates.

In manufacture of many sodium salts, source of carbon dioxide, in effervescent salts, beverages, cleaning compound.

Sodium bicarbonate, NaHC03, also known as sodium acid carbonate and baking soda, is a white water-soluble crystalline solid.It has an alkaline taste, loses carbon dioxide at 270°C (518 °F).and is used in food preparation. Sodium bicarbonate also finds use as a medicine,a butter preservative, in ceramics,and to prevent timber mold.
